The World Wide Web, or the Internet is something that we take for granted today. And yet, we cannot imagine going about our daily lives without it. The Internet is basically a network of networks, connecting millions of computers all over the world. This vast network had relatively humble beginnings, and started as a US government project. After its development, it was still government-only technology was commercialized in 1988, and it made in-roads in the daily life of millions of users. The Internet, humungous as though it may be, operates without a central governing body. It has innumerable uses, and in this age, almost anything can be done online. The popularity of the Internet has grown at a phenomenal rate since its conception. In 2002, it had about 500 million users, and as of 2009, more than one and a half billion people use the internet. Sachin Tendulkar. Where do I start? 200 words? Nah, not enough, not by a long shot.
Sachin Tendulkar is popularly considered as one of the greatest batsmen the sport of cricket has ever seen. Appearing on the scene in 1989, he has won not only matches for India, but also the hearts of millions. To quote a cliché, in India, where cricket is considered a religion, Tendulkar is God. He is the top run – scorer in both forms of the sport; Test and One Day Internationals. In 2002, Wisden, a cricket almanac, rated Tendulkar as the second best batsmen of all time, behind Sir Donald Bradman, a legend himself. He is also is the only player to score a double century in an ODI, which he did against South Africa, yesterday. He has scored 47 centuries in Test and 46 in ODIs with an overall total of more than 30,000 runs. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Sachin has innumerable awards and broken countless records, too many to list here. In November 2009, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government, which is the second highest civilian honour, after the Padma Bhushan. He has also been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, in the face of his achievements in cricket.
