Among the many children’s comics available, Asterix and Obelix manages to stand out among the rest. The comic was conceptualized in 1959 by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. It is about two warrior protagonists Asterix and Obelix, who live in the only village that is still successfully hold out against Julius Caesar, who is trying to conquer all of Europe. This is largely possible due to a magic potion concocted by the village druid Getafix, which makes the drinker invincible for a short period of time. Obelix falls into a cauldron full of magic potion as a baby, and this has a permanent effect on him. The stories follow the adventures of Asterix and Obelix as they time and again thwart the devious plans of Caesar to capture the village. The stories, set in Gaul around 44 BC, prove to be hilarious and are enjoyed by people of all ages.
